The Assessment Process
Assessment Process
Understanding the assessment journey
Each assessment is designed to meet the unique needs of every client. The process may vary depending on the concerns raised, but the following steps provide an overview of what to expect during a psychoeducational assessment.
Referral Question
The first step in the assessment process is understanding the reason for the referral. You may be self-referred or referred by a doctor, school, or another professional. The referral question helps shape the assessment plan and ensures that the right areas are explored.
Assessment Plan
Daniela will create an individualised assessment plan based on the referral question and the client’s specific needs. This plan outlines the assessments to be conducted and provides a roadmap for the process.
Initial Consultation
Duration: 1–1.5 hours
Daniela will meet with the client and/or a parent or primary caregiver to gather important background information, including developmental and educational history, family background, and current concerns. This conversation helps provide context for the assessment and ensures a comprehensive understanding of the client’s needs.
Assessment Sessions
Duration: 1–2 sessions (1.5–2 hours per session)
The type and length of assessments depend on the referral question and the client’s individual attributes. These details will be outlined in the assessment plan. If further assessment is recommended, Daniela will discuss this with you before making any changes.
Feedback Session
Duration: 1–1.5 hours
Once the assessment is complete, Daniela will meet with the client (where appropriate) and their parent or caregiver to go through the results. She will explain the findings, discuss recommendations, and answer any questions you may have.
To ensure you have all the information you need, Daniela offers a free 30-minute phone consultation within two weeks of the feedback session to clarify any questions about the report.
